I realized today that i could unplug the speaker wire that goes to my computer and hook it up to my iPod. Is there maybe a splitter available so that i could have it receive audio from that as well as from my computer?

Yes, those splitters are very common, but if the output jack of the computer or ipod isnt high impedance then you might lose too much energy into one of the devices from the other. It’s probably best to have only one connected at a time.
